MADRID (Reuters) – European Central Bank Vice President Luis de Guindos said on Thursday that he took a very positive view of the European Union leaders’ decision to name Christine Lagarde as the next president of the ECB.
“It is a very good choice. (She) is a person that has done a magnificent task at the International Monetary Fund,” de Guindos said in an interview with Spanish radio RNE.
European Union leaders agreed on Tuesday to name France’s Lagarde, currently head of the IMF, to replace Italian Mario Draghi as ECB president at the end of October, while choosing German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen as the new Commission president.
